Before I start this....I bought the football. Suck on that, France.
Salut.
So last week, I had no school whatsoever. This week, the campus is STILL blocked however, the French students have decided to allow foreign kids to continue to go to class. So all of us in the CIEF language study program can go to school but all of the other students, Meg for example, can’t go to class. On one hand, I am relieved to be going back to class but on the other hand, I forgot how boring my classes are and I am dreading going back to that. I really hate my classes, minus 3. And I have 10 classes. Next semester WILL NOT be the same as this because I honestly don’t think I can do it anymore.
Very fortunately for me, the director of the Art department at U of O sent me a personal e-mail telling me that the Product Design website is up and running. I had been pestering her for probably 6 or 7 months just making sure that the major was ACTUALLY going to happen. So she emailed me to tell me that it was finally working and to wish me good luck on my application! That’s cool, right?
Well, I checked it out the other day, when I didn’t have class, and I now know exactly all of the classes I will be taking for the next year (and one extra trimester…sorry parents….Its going to take me an extra trimester to graduate. But in all fairness, I will be starting my major during my senior year). I’m really stoked about this whole thing! It’s finally real! I’ve been talking about for nearly 2 years but talking about something is different than it actually happening. The addition of the major wasn’t even concrete until about 6 months ago and now, the curriculum is set and I can apply! It’s really real and not just words and newspaper articles! I am really excited to have a major. I haven’t had that feeling for my entire college career and it’s a great feeling to finally have.
In other, more annoying news, our internet STILL does not work. After ALL of that work, we find out that the phone number at the apartment wasn’t functioning. So, this past Saturday I got to go to the mall not once, but twice. The first time, to find out that we needed to buy a phone number and bring a ton of papers and the second time to go back to the phone store with my papers. I haaaattteee all of this beaurocracy in France. Well, it turned out that my numerous trips to the mall were a blessing in disguise because I ran into, literally, RAN INTO my French teacher from U of O!!!
We were both getting off at the Mall metro stop but she was walking the opposite direction as me and we ran into each other! There was screaming and a big hug involved. To clear things up for those who don’t know, my French teacher last year is 23 years old and is from Lyon. She was at U of O last year to finish her Master’s and now she is back here in France. So, we exchanged numbers and we are going to hang out! I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS! Almost every single time I rode the metro I thought, “hey, maybe I’ll run into Isabelle today…” and it ACTUALLY happened! Out of 1.5 million people to be on my same metro car getting off at the same metro stop…the ONE person I had been hoping to run into! I’m really jazzed about this. No one gets it but I am really really jazzed.
That happened on Saturday and later that same day, Meg and I threw a housewarming party. We told people to come over around 9:30. Well, 10:30 rolled around and no one was there. Meg and I resorted to finishing the bottle of wine we bought while Meg taped pictures to her wall and I danced around the living room singing Tone Loc, Prince, and Journey. It was sad and we thought we were losers.
Then, all of a sudden, everyone came. Meg stopped the photo-taping and I was no longer dancing with myself in the living room. I knew things started later in Europe but we invited a lot of Americans and I thought at least they would be on time. Maybe the “Europe” is getting to us because being 30 minutes late now a days isn’t a big deal at all. In fact, its normal. Well, at about 12:00, we had a legitimate dance party going on and it was amazing. I think I am still getting text messages telling me how great it was…
…so if you want to come to our next one, it might be harder to get into. Meg and I seem to be pretty hot shit in our Chic French Appart. Bribes will be accepted at:
2 Rue de l’Alma.
Lyon, France 69001.
À tout à l’heure…
