Bonjour tout le monde.
I'm a little sick today. I feel a cold coming on and i'm really trying to fight it. The pharmacy is closed on Sunday so I can go buy vitamin C or anything. Thats first on my list on Monday. I do NOT want to get sick. A cold AND the Ducks losing all in one weekend? Thats just too much to handle. I just hope the Gators still got my back....
Well, I just finished my first week of real school. Its just okay. I have this really horrible teacher for 4 CLASSES. I'm pretty sure he is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life, and I thought I've had some doozies. At least I feel like those professors kind of knew what they were talking about. This guy, whose name is Jean Pierre Bonnivard (how French) will begin class, by standing up there and explaining what the class is ans what we are going to be doing today. Then, honest to god, I think he has like, miniature blackouts where he will stare at the ground for like 10 seconds and its so quiet in the classroom that you can hear the rain dripping from the leaves outside. Then he will all of a sudden start back up and usually mumble something (THAT NO ONE UNDERSTANDS BECAUSE WE ARE ALL FOREIGN STUDENTS.....) and then awkwardly laugh.
It.
is.
horrible.
And he never looks the class in the eye until the last two words of his sentences or so. He sort of stares down and then there I am, in the second row, and I feel like he is staring at my chest. He's not, but because hes off in french la-la-land staring just below the eyelines of every student it really feels that way. No one in the class likes him either and there is NOTHING we can do about it. Its awful. I've asked everyone I've had a chance to: "Donc....ah...tu aimes le prof??" "NO"...I get that from every student. sigh.....anyway....
So we've pretty much got all of Asia covered in my class. Here's the list:
Two from China
Two from Japan
One from Taiwan
One from Thailand
One from Korea
One from Vietnam
One from Turkey
One from Georgia/Armenia
One from Brazil
Four from the US
and I think thats it.
Also I am the youngest person in my class. Everyone except us from the US have graduated already. The guy from Georgia has TWO MASTERS in Czech and Russian. The dude from Turkey is 30. Its weird. I referenced Harry Potter in class the other day and felt really young. Anyway, I really like the people in my class MINUS THE GUY FROM GEORGIA.
I cant begin to describe this guy, but half of everything he says (and he is ALWAYS TALKING) is half french and half mumbling, stumbling throaty gargling, errr, ehhh, thinking noises. It SOUNDS like there is a garbage disposal IN his throat. And, he ALLLWAAYYYSS HASS SOOMMEETHHIINGG TOOOO SAYYY.........
He went off for, I kid you not, 15 minutes, about this movie he saw last night. We were supposed to be naming works of art and why they were important to us (thats when I referenced Harry Potter....). I was under the impression that a brief explanation would suffice. I spoke for 2.5-3 minutes, with commentary by the teacher. And it was fine. BUT Mr. Alexandre Talksalotathroatimus (I think that is his last name actually) just goes ON and ON and ON......It gets to the point when this guy is talking where we all kind of glance around at one another and grin and roll our eyes....its bad. The teacher even gets bored and tries to cut him off. I often imagine what a paintball would look like as it splatters across the back of his balding greasy head. With him and JP Bonnivard, I don't know WHAT i'm gonna do. I think I might start bringing a book to class.
